The Shop Around The Corner

One of my favourite home ware and gift stores is BLINK in Seapoint.

BLINK has a range of South African designers including a fantastic selection of Wonki Ware, beautiful gifts for babies, jewellery including Pierre Estienne and Skermunkil, cards by Heather Moore/Skinny Laminx and many more beautiful items.

This is a great place to find a locally made gift to give to fellow locals and to send overseas.

The lovely ladies at BLINK offer a lovely gift wrapping service as well.

I always manage to find something.....especially something for myself!

A winery with a twist

A winery was recently recommended to visit for tastings and possibly sharing a bottle of wine or two with friends.....

Consequently, the following week whilst reading a local home and interiors magazine, as article appeared before me - wonderful images of an 1800's farm and winery that had been renovated tastefully with a modern red and white theme and I realised that this was the winery that had been recommended.

So whilst we had some visitors here from Australia and England, we decided that this one was going to be included on our winery tour on the Sunday.......

It was our last stop on our tour and it turned out to be the perfect way to end the day!

We started with a tasting (R40 per person) which included 6 wines.

Even though it was nearing the end of the day, the friendly staff were more than happy for us to order a few cheese plates, enjoy a bottle of wine and watch the sun go down.

I can definitely recommend the Sauvignon Blanc 2008 - very light and some might say, too easy to drink ;)

The Grand - Granger Bay

This little gem is no longer a secret in Cape Town.....

Last November and December I watched on as a run down warehouse at Granger Bay was transformed to The Grand at Granger Bay.

The Grand has become a a popular ''franchise'' with venues in Plettenberg Bay, Camps Bay and Granger Bay each with its own unique theme but keeping within the Grand brand.

Granger Bay is fantastic for afternoon drinks and sun downers on the sand.

To eat, I can recommend the pizzas and the sugar salmon :)

Tip......bookings essential!

A good coffee can often be few and far between. Until recently, a little place called Deluxe Coffeeworks opened in town.
Not only is the coffee fantastic but it is R10 - to have in or takeaway.

Rooftop Movies!

A few weeks ago I organised a private movie screening for my friends at the Pink Flamingo. The Pink Flamingo is one of The Grand Daddy hotels recent summer concepts and is a fantastic night out in Cape Town!
If you book a private screening it includes 32 seats for your friends, popcorn and sweets, you get to choose your own movie and 1-2 staff are allocated to your group. We organised for our friends to meet on the rooftop bar from 6.30pm onwards and the movie commenced once the sun has gone down. You can go to the bar at any time and food from the restaurant in the hotel can also be ordered and brought to you on the rooftop.
The private screening isn't the only option, the Pink Flamingo also has scheduled movies open to the public a few nights a week.....I would recommend pre-booking your tickets.
Thanks Jess and George at the Pink Flamingo for a great night.

From the beginning........

I have lived in Cape Town for the past 2 years and during this time I have discovered many of its available and hidden treasures.

This includes anything from where one can buy a pair of leggings to go with a tunic, where to get a gift to send overseas, where to grab the best takeaway coffee from town, eat brunch, meet for a drink at sundown, have clothing alterations done, find vintage pieces, find locally designed gift wrapping and cards.........the list goes on.

You might be wondering what this has to do with a blog.............
Due to many people who I have crossed paths with over the last 2 years, whether they are local or visiting for business or on holiday, I have often shared my discoveries and recommended my favourites.

After continuously writing down my favourites on scraps of paper, in guide books or in the travel journals of others, I decided to compile it all in one place.

So, here it goes!

I hope you enjoy what my Cape Town has to offer.
